Volunteers

Mission

To humanize the children’s experience in the rehabilitation centre and to compliment the services and health care they receive.

Our volunteers are of great help for they participate in bringing improvements to the children’s daily living quarters and provide the children with additional services.

The Volunteers:

  • Are an additional resource to the staff on site;
  • Give support to the rehabilitation workers;
  • Help improve the children’s quality of life during their stay in the CRME by catering to their emotional and recreational needs and by being able to participate in associated activities;
  • Provide support to parents.

To become a volunteer with the CRME, candidates must:

  • Like children and teenagers;
  • Demonstrate patience;
  • Be willing to commit for three fixed hours per week for a minimum of 6 consecutive months;
  • Be in good mental health;
  • Be in good physical health;
  • Accept being under supervision;
  • Complete all required forms;
  • Participate in volunteer training sessions;
  • Agree to be vaccinated and to undergo a screening test for tuberculosis;
  • Authorize our volunteer service to conduct a background check for any criminal records.

Training

A one-day training session is mandatory for people who wish to contribute to the Centre de réadaptation Marie Enfant as a volunteer.

Topics covered in the training session include:

  • Code of Ethics
  • True or False (activities about prejudices)
  • How to Listen
  • The Psychosocial Aspects of Children’s Diseases
  • The Importance of Play
  • Standard Precautions/Prevention of Infections
