Services - Intensive Functional Rehabilitation Unit

The Intensive Functional Rehabilitation Unit has 35 beds and is divided into three units: a first unit for children aged 0-5 years, a second unit for children aged 6-12 years and a third unit for teenagers aged 13-18 years. The children’s rooms have one or two beds. A nursing team that supervises and provides the required care to children based on their age group.

Upon admission to the Intensive Functional Rehabilitation Unit, a team of therapists conduct an evaluation and identify the required rehabilitation program based on the child’s condition and objectives to achieve during the child’s stay in the unit. In addition to this, the CRME Intensive Functional Rehabilitation Unit’s team provides children and parents with knowledge-building instructional sessions.

The daily schedule also includes educational classes to prevent the child from experiencing any academic setbacks; or to provide the child or teenager with an adapted educational program in order to meet any new needs.

Following several days (around 4 weeks), parents are invited to attend a meeting about any adjustments to make regarding the rehabilitation objectives.

Certain interventions may take place in the child’s home in preparation of his/her return.

To facilitate the child’s integration at home and to favour the continuity of service provision, the team ensures that community resources and health and social services centres are involved, and also makes referrals to the appropriate CRME program or regional rehabilitation centre.
