Objectives - Neuromuscular Diseases

The program’s multidisciplinary team aims to enhance the social participation and quality of life of children aged 0-18 years, who have been diagnosed with a neuromuscular disease.

Both the child and family participate in an adjustment process throughout the rehabilitation program.

General Objectives

  1. As soon as the rehabilitation program begins, both the child and family enter into a process to help them adjust to the disease.
  2. The child and family are provided with the tools to enable them to resolve the problems that affect their social participation.
  3. The child, or a family member, ensures his/her personal care and physical well-being (hygiene, clothing, sleep, health care, meals, etc.).
  4. The child maintains satisfying interpersonal relationships.
  5. The child is able to communicate with others.
  6. The child achieves his/her learning objectives in school.
  7. The child engages in recreational activities, which both the child and family favour (sports, intellectual, cultural, leisure, social, etc.).
  8. The child integrates into community life (using public services and community resources; practicing religion, etc.)
  9. The child exercises his/her potential for socioresidential autonomy.
  10. Professionals working in the program foster the development, transfer and acquisition of knowledge and skills with regard to the needs of children who live with neuromuscular diseases.
